Electrically Conductive Latex-Based Composites
نویسنده
چکیده
Electrically conductive polymer composites filled with carbon black can exhibit the mechanical behavior of a polymer and metallic electrical conductivity. Unfortunately, excessive amounts of carbon black can produce brittle films and too little carbon black can result in low conductivity. Composite conductivity can be dramatically improved by using latex as the matrix starting material. Latex polymers create a segregated network of carbon black during drying, which dramatically reduces the concentration necessary to achieve good conductivity. We have prepared latexes with varying glass transition temperature and particle size to tune both electrical conductivity and mechanical behavior.

Electrically small antennas (ESAs) are becoming one of the key components in the compact wireless devices for telecommunications, defence, and aerospace systems, especially for the spherical one whose geometric layout is more closely approaching Chu's limit, thus yielding significant bandwidth improvements relative to the linear and planar counterparts. Yet broad applications of the volumetric ...
